Prayer was no stranger to Sonya; she'd already started to bow her head before Maggie had even suggested it. Sankera, too, held a similar air about her. She only began to bow her head after Maggie said something, but even so, the two women held about them the same sort of quiet reverence as they clasped their hands over their hearts. Perhaps it was an elf thing.
Maggie, Courtney, and Michelle all raised their bowls just high enough so that they could bow their heads to be lower. They were all silent for a moment in that position before they lowered their bowls, prayer completed. The siblings by the wall then began to eat, and Maggie turned a smile towards Cathix to address the question from a moment ago.
"It varies from house to house. I have a friend in town who will spend five full minutes reciting the same prayer before each meal; I have many more friends who bow their heads for but a moment, and I know many others who do nothing of the sort. I like to take a moment to feel humble; it helps me... stay connected, I suppose."
Courtney nodded silently by the wall, though he kept his eyes on his food. It was Michelle's eyes who wandered slightly, and she found her gaze headed towards the girl - and then her eyes widened slightly, seeing the girl sitting up, looking bleary-eyed around the room. The blond lightly nudged her brother on the shoulder, and he looked up and caught sight of the girl, too. Seeing that people had noticed her, the girl finished rubbing at her eye and tossed her gaze from one person to another, unsure who she should address specifically.
"Um..." she finally said, taking a second to look down at her bandaged hands, "Is... I mean, was there... a wolf with me?"
Michelle and Courtney shared a glance - clearly meaningful to the two of them, though it was hard to guess what exactly it was. Sankera had already made her way to her feet to kneel again by the futon, eyes falling on the girl's face with a rather deep look of concern. The girl's eyes followed Sankera curiously, but continued to hop from person to person, still trying to decide who exactly would be the best person to specifically address the question to.
"There was a wolf," Michelle finally spoke up, looking a little sheepish, "Grey, stomach whiter than the back?" The girl nodded, and Michelle frowned lightly. "It... ran into the woods when I found you. Are you feeling alright?"
The girl frowned a moment, as if thinking very hard about something, and then finally nodded faintly. "Dizzy." she said softly, and again her eyes fell on her bandaged hands, and all at once her expression looked more than a little upset. Then, in a huff, she planted her feet on the floor, intending to run outside, but Sankera lightly placed her arm around the girl's waist. It wasn't a lot of pressure, but the girl didn't seem intent on fighting against it; instead she pouted, and looked like she might be about to cry.
"He might've gotten Benji," the girl said, eyes looking pleadingly at Sankera. "I-" Oh, dear. That was the warble of an unhappy voice, "I have to- to go find- him..." Oh, sheesh. Anyone in the room could tell that the girl was showcasing some pretty heart-wrenching puppydog eyes, and Sankera was looking straight into them. It wasn't but a moment before she gently pulled the girl into a hug, and the girl didn't hesitate to wrap her arms around the woman's neck and start sobbing into her shoulder. Sankera did the best she could to rub the girl's back and quietly whisper a few consoling 'shh's into her ear.
"I'll go look for him." Courtney announced, quite decisively setting his bowl on the floor and standing up. "Grey wolf, white stomach?" he directed the question towards Michelle, who nodded and then touched her shoulder. She mouthed something - it was short and difficult to catch - but Courtney nodded, and then started heading for the door.
((I promise guys, my posts will be shorter when we get to a place with fewer NPCs lol))
